MICRONEEDLING
Microneedling is the use of multiple, tiny needles to puncture the top layer of the skin. While this sounds painful, it is relatively pain-free with the use of topical numbing cream. The purpose of this procedure is to create microtrauma in the skin that stimulates your body's natural wound healing response and collagen production. This treatment can help to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and minimize pore size. It can also improve tone and texture and help with acne scarring and stretch marks. Multiple treatments (3-8) are required to see the desired results, but there is minimal downtime following each treatment. Microneedling is safe for all skin types and colors.

Not everyone is a good candidate for microneedling. If you have an autoimmune disease (lupus, vitiligo, psoriasis), keloids, have sensitive skin, have taken isotretinoin within the last 6 months or take blood thinners, then you should consults with one of our board-certified dermatologist prior to undergoing the procedure. If you are scheduled for a treatment, follow these instructions to prepare your skin.
-
Discontinue retinoids (Retin-A, Altreno, Tazorac) 24 hours prior to the procedure.
-
Avoid sun exposure for 3 days prior, it should not be performed or tanned or sun-burned skin.
-
Reschedule your appointment if you develop a cold sore (fever blister) or have an acne breakout.
-
Arrive to the appointment with a clean face, without makeup.
What should I do to prepare for the procedure?
-
Your face will be cleansed and then a numbing cream will be applied. The cream may tingle or sting your face once it is applied to the skin. This numbing cream will be left on your skin 20-30 minutes and removed immediately prior to the procedure. Once numb, a microneedling pen is then passed back and forth over the treatment area injecting tiny needles into the skin. This sounds painful, but you do not need to worry, you will feel only minimal discomfort. The procedure takes about 15 minutes.
What should I expect during the procedure?
-
Once the procedure is complete, your skin will be pink to red with possibly some pin-point bleeding and swelling. it will be sensitive, and it may be tight, tingle, or feel like a sunburn. You may experience peeling of your skin starting on day 2. While the redness resolves within 24 hours, it take about 3-4 days for your skin to return to normal. After the procedure, please follow these instructions:
-
Avoid applying makeup or sunscreen for the rest of the day.
-
For the first 24 hours after treatment, only wash your face with water and apply the Skinfuse Rescue Calming Complex and the Lift HA Serum. Do not use any cleansers, moisturizers, or sunscreens.
-
On days 2-4, continue the Rescue Calming Complex and the Lift HA Serum and you can start using a gentle cleanser and a zinc oxide based sunscreen.
-
Avoid sweating or exercise for 3 days and avoid sun exposure for 7 days.
-
Restart your regular skin care routine on day 4.
